Welcome to Post 16

Welcome to Ilkley Grammar School Post-16. 2016-17 was an eventful year for us. In March we had an Ofsted inspection and our post-16 provision was graded as “outstanding”. Stand-out comments from the inspectors regarding our post-16 included…

·         Through high-quality support and guidance, the overwhelming majority of students go on to further training or study, often at the most prestigious universities.

·         Students make outstanding progress from their starting points across a wide range of subjects.

·         Teaching over time is outstanding.

·         Students’ attitudes to learning are excellent. They are self-assured, punctual and ambitious. They show high levels of independence and cooperate well with each other and their teachers. They work hard and produce high-quality work over time.

Our A level results in 2016-17 were the best results the school has ever had with student progress scoring between the 90th and 99th percentile and graded as Outstanding (see news section of the website for details).

This is wonderful affirmation of the hard work of both staff and students and is something of which we are rightly proud. However, I am not complacent. Every year is a fresh start and we are working hard to ensure that this year’s students reach their personal best.

Post-16 is the most important and most exciting time in a student’s education and I am proud to be leading IGS's Post-16 where we are both ambitious for our students and understanding of their needs.

To our students: I can’t promise straight A* grades for all of you but I can promise that there will be fun times, stressful times, more responsibility, more independence, big decisions and the opportunity to make a great future for yourself.

This is an exciting time and we are all proud to be part of it.

Mr Sykes

Director of Post-16

This took place on Thursday 10th November where prospective students found out all about our Post 16 offer, including presentations from the Post 16 team and the chance to walk around the school, visit departments and talk to current students about their experiences here at IGS.

The presentation given by our Director of Post 16 Mr. Sykes can be seen below, along with a further presentation summarising some of the key reasons why we believe that IGS makes the best choice for Post 16.
