P16 Open Evening 2018 Information

  • Through high-quality support and guidance, the overwhelming majority of students go on to further training or study, often at the most prestigious universities.

Our results show a track record of students reaching their personal best, due to the hard work from staff, students and the support of their parents.

In 2018 11% of all grades achieved were at A* (3% above national), with all other attainment measures also continuing to be above national rates, including almost a third of all grades achieved at A/A* (31%), with 60% at A*-B and a 98% overall pass rate.

This is wonderful affirmation of the hard work of both staff and students and is something of which we are rightly proud. However, I am not complacent. Every year is a fresh start and we are working hard to ensure that this year’s students reach their personal best.

Post-16 is the most important and most exciting time in a student’s education and I am proud to be leading IGS's Post-16 where we are both ambitious for our students and understanding of their needs.

To our students: I can’t promise straight A* grades for all of you but I can promise that there will be fun times, stressful times, more responsibility, more independence, big decisions and the opportunity to make a great future for yourself.

This is an exciting time and we are all proud to be part of it.

The Post 16 Team

The Post 16 Team consists:

  • Director of Post 16 - Mr Josh Sykes
  • Post 16 Learning Leader - Miss Danielle Maguire
  • Post 16 Student Managers - Miss Harriet Sanham (Y12) & Dr Christine Merrall (Y13)
  • Senior Assistant Headteacher with strategic oversight of Post 16 - Mr Mark Rignall

Post 16 Open Evening

This will take place on Tuesday 13th November 2018 (6pm-8pm) where prospective students will find out all about our Post 16 offer, including presentations from the Post 16 team and the chance to walk around the school, visit departments and talk to current students about their experiences here at IGS.

STUDYING AT IGS

We are a mainly academic Post 16 and we offer a wide range of A Level courses, offering a broad choice of subjects, which will enable you to progress onto your chosen career.

We have an excellent track record of success with many of our students going on to exciting opportunities at the end of Year 13, including Oxford, Cambridge, Russell Group universities, the London School of Contemporary Dance and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.  Numerous students have gone on to study medicine, dentistry and many other varied courses such as Aerospace Engineering with a Year in North America, Astrophysics with Cosmology and Social Anthropology.

We also support students to move successfully into their first jobs after completing their studies with us and others who head off on global adventures for a gap year, with recent destinations including Nepal and Australia amongst others.

  • Attend ALL Lessons and registrations
  • To be punctual
  • To follow the Post 16 Professional Dress Code
All students must wear the IGS lanyard with P16 access card at all times.
  • Skirt/dress/tailored trousers (grey/dark/subtle colour of choice).  Leather is unacceptable.  Skirt length should be closer to the knee than the hip.
  • Blouse/smart top /collared shirt/ (plain or subtle pattern/subtle colour of choice)
  • Burgundy/black IGS Post 16 tie or professional tie of choice (optional for girls)
  • Smart, plain jumper/cardigan or a tailored jacket (grey/dark/subtle colour of choice)

For clarification the following items are not allowed for either Year 12 or Year 13:

Shorts/cropped trousers. Leggings. Tops with offensive logos. Strappy/vest tops. Denim. Backless shoes/sandals or flip flops. Facial piercing. Extreme hair colour. No hats or coats to be worn in lessons.  NB - if a student wishes to wear a hoody in place of a coat then they must remove it in lessons.

Final decisions on the appropriateness of any clothing (eg skirt length) will be at the discretion of the Director of Post 16/LT.


FACILITIES

The Post 16 Centre offers a social area, including a dedicated Post 16 café, a silent study area and a collaborative working space which includes ICT facilities.  Year 12/13 can also make use of facilities around the school including our Mac suite and wireless laptop racks as well as enter into our 1-to-1 ipad learning scheme.  Students can also access the specialised skills of the Post 16 Team for support with any issues during their time with us. 


iPads

IGS is an iPad school and Post 16 is no exception. We want all our students to benefit from the most comprehensive and powerful learning tools available. Post16 therefore run a similar programme as lower school with regard to iPads. For further details please see the iPads section on our website here.


SUPPORT

There is a strong cohesive network for support whether it is academic support or pastoral support. The curriculum link carefully with the Key Stage 5 Team to offer the required level of support
