ANNUAL CHARITIES WEEK

Monday 12th to Friday 16th December 2022

Our annual week of fundraising in aid of charities chosen by our students.

Over the past few weeks, each student has been given an opportunity to vote for a charity for their year group to enable each year group to support a different charity. The results of the votes are:

  • Year 7: Guide Dogs UK
  • Year 8: Yorkshire Brain Tumour Research
  • Year 9: LS29 (local charity who support families with additional needs)
  • Year 10: Marie Curie
  • Year 11: To be confirmed after the mock exams
  • Year 12 & 13: Pakistan Flood Relief

This year, we have decided that each Key Stage will have its own charities week which will spread the activities out across the year and reinforce the idea that service and charitable giving are an ongoing process. Key Stage 4 will be organising activities before Easter and Key Stage 3 will support their charities in the summer term.

In the week commencing 12th December, Post-16 students will be organising some activities to raise money for the Pakistan Flood Relief appeal. 2 million homes have been destroyed or badly damaged, 900 health care facilities across the country have been damaged and 3.6 million acres of crops have been affected and 1.2 million livestock have been lost.

The Post-16 Student Leadership Team have also proposed a sponsored event where some Year 12/13 students will sleep outdoors for a night during that week to raise awareness of the cost of living and homelessness.

  • Tuesday: Year 7 Disco in B-Hall (3.15-4.30pm)
  • Wednesday: A dodgeball competition after school
  • Thursday: The Big Sleep Out
  • Friday: Full non-uniform day/Christmas Jumper Day

Other events are planned for the New Year including a Parent/Carer V IGS Staff pub quiz- more details to follow.

The Student Council have also decided that a small proportion of the money raised during these activities will be retained and spent on a ‘school cause’. Suggestions are currently being made by students on the understanding that any money spent must be of benefit to students, be authorised by senior leaders and be ‘future-proof’ with regards to the School Rebuilding Programme.

You will see a number of activities appear on ParentPay next week and we would be very grateful if you feel able to donate to any of the above activities.

Many thanks for your generosity so far and for any further support you are able to give.
