The vast majority of our students go onto University after their A levels.  We support students in their applications to a wide range of Universities and courses.  Our alumni go on to achieve success in a wide variety of subjects from traditional academic degrees to more vocational degrees e.g. Marine Biology, Fashion Buying, in Universities all over the United Kingdom – including of course Oxbridge.  Take a look at the ‘Destination Data’ section below to find out what our 2017 leavers did next.

For those students who choose not to go to University we have our own independent Careers Advisor and our students go on to enjoy jobs in banking, accountancy, the Armed Forces, Retail and many other areas.

Our University Application process is thorough and all students have the following opportunities and support.

  • A visit to the Higher Education Fair at Leeds Beckett University
  • A UCAS application ‘launch’ day in June (including input on personal statements from Lancaster and Leeds Universities and an explanation of the electronic application system – www.ucas.com)
  • Within a tutorial programme and students can request personal sessions if requested
  • Student references, written by a subject staff and collated by personal tutors, into composite reference for UCAS form
  • A Finance Talk
  • ‘Higher Education Evening for Parents’
  • Internal deadline of October half term (in order for students to make early entry for places)

We have a full Apply+ programme. Students who are interested in applying to prestigious universities and high level courses are identified very early. We offer them a full programme of support. Potential Oxford or Cambridge students are taken to the Oxbridge Convention and then supported in applying to the College of their choice.  We stage mock academic interviews alongside vocational interviews.  Students are supported throughout the application process in order to give them the very best chance at these most competitive of Universities.

We have regular visits from the local colleges who operate level 2/3 apprenticeships to inform the students the importance of this method of progression. We also have monthly bulletins to show all the local apprenticeship vacancies.

We have links with various GAP Year institutions including Project Trust, a charitable organisation which operates all over the world. If a student is planning to take a year out we encourage our students to undertake a calculated and well planned gap year.  Students do receive information on GAP years through our enrichment programme.

Over 85% progress onto Higher Education, covering a full range of subjects. We have extremely minimal NEET figures.
