The PTA held its latest Zoom meeting on Wednesday 6th January.
It was reported that almost £700 was raised by the Parentkind Christmas raffle. We would like to thank everyone that bought tickets.
We know that not everyone was able to buy tickets this time round as we only had a limited number allocated to us and they sold out very quickly. However, we understand that Parentkind will be organising another raffle of this kind later in the year, so at least there will be another opportunity to buy tickets - watch this space!
This academic year, we have again not yet made plans for any of our usual events as we simply don’t know what we will be able to do, but we are constantly looking at other ’virtual’ events that we can organise in order to continue to raise money for school projects.
We continue to focus on the school’s plans to further enhance mental health/wellbeing support for our students in these extremely challenging times. In fact, Mr Adams, the recently appointed ‘Mental Health Champion’, spoke very passionately to us on Wednesday about those plans and it was agreed that the PTA would fund the cost of Mr Adams embarking upon a 7-day training course whereby he would then be accredited to provide mental health training to other members of staff in school (at a cost of just under £3000). Once Mr Adams is accredited, there are plans for further investment to ensure as many staff as possible receive the training they need to support the mental health/wellbeing of our student body (and each other).
We also heard from Mr James Kerry, a teacher in the Design Technology department about their aims for expanding the department’s technological capabilities in order to keep in step with a rapidly developing field. A working party is being set up to form a plan for fundraising which the PTA is keen to support. We will report further about this in due course.
With such plans afoot, the PTA needs to keep fundraising!
Our latest project is the setting up of an account with ‘Your School Lottery’. We hope that you will be able to support this by joining the lottery – you can either buy lottery tickets on an ad hoc basis, or you can set up a direct debit to be sure that you are entered each week for the lottery draw.
Tickets can be purchased by following the link here, selecting 'Buy a ticket' and searching for Ilkley Grammar School (PTA).
The next draw date is on 16th January, so please do buy your lottery tickets as soon as possible in order to be included in that draw. Unlike the Parentkind raffle, there is no limit on the number of lottery tickets you can buy. And it’s very simple to set up.
Of course, you can also still donate to the PTA via the GoFundMe page here.
Please contact us at any time via email at PTA@ilkleygs.co.uk.
