STUDENT DESIGNED CHRISTMAS CARDS

This term, the Anti-Bullying team at IGS conducted a competition to design a Christmas card, and two beautiful designs have been printed onto recycled card.

They are now for sale in the school reception costing £5 for a pack of 4 (2 of each design in a pack). The money we raise will go towards the youth development programme of the charity 'Think Like a Pony'.

This charity is a leading organisation working to educate young people with equine therapy and children’s horsemanship, The charity equips children with skills which extend beyond working with horses by developing confidence, resilience, responsibility and care. Their approach is proven to be lifesaving for vulnerable children referred through social services, school and the NHS’s mental health services.

The Anti-Bullying group chose to raise money for this organisation, as the charity focuses their work on children with mental health difficulties and special educational needs through their Youth Development Programme which some IGS students have participated in and benefited from, including a member of the Anti-Bullying group. As mental health and bullying are inextricably linked, for the victim and the perpetrator, The Anti-Bullying team feels that it is important to support this powerful local charity.

This programme has been said to “change the lives” of some of the “hardest to reach children in our community…those who are at high risk of self-harm, suicide, depression and chronic anxiety”. They are helped by being taught to build a relationship with the pony to empower them to take control of their physical, mental and emotional state. This helps them to build stronger relationships, re-engage with learning, and envisage a future for themselves.
