School Buses

Operate to and from Menston, Addingham, Burley and Keighley. These will all drop off at the lay-by on Cowpasture Road or on Wheatley Road.

Full bus timetables are available here.

Whilst travelling on the buses, students must behave sensibly and remain seated at all times, with seat belts fastened. Where there are concerns about conduct or health and safety, a student may be banned from using the school bus for a week or more. School buses are available from either the lay-by on Cowpasture Road, or on Wheatley Road. If anyone is reported for bad behaviour, it may result in them being excluded from their bus.

Further information and forms regarding school bus passes is available on Bradford Council’s website here or view further information from Generation M

Message on behalf of Education Transport: West Yorkshire Combined Authority

In previous years we have automatically renewed Priority PhotoCards for students already registered to travel on a school service. This will no longer be the case. We now require each parent to complete an online renewal form if they wish for their child to continue to use the school bus services for the next academic year.

The online renewal form can be found here on generationm.co.uk. Parents need to select the school that their child attends and complete the short survey.  We have written to all parents/carers of students that are currently registered to travel advising of this change (letter attached)

New starters and students staying on to Years 12 & 13 must complete a new application form which can be found here on our website.

The Education Transport team will also be sending out reminders using the @metrogenm Twitter feed and the generationM Facebook page and details can be found on the schools transport website at www.generationm.co.uk.

Bradford Council Post 16 Transport Policy Consultation

The council has a duty to prepare, consult upon and publish an annual transport policy statement each year specifying the arrangements for the provision of transport or otherwise that the authority considers it necessary to facilitate the attendance of all persons of sixth form age receiving education or training.

PE Buses during the school day

For school games at the field students will be told where to line up for their double PE/Games lesson, and will be escorted by PE staff onto the buses in the Cowpasture Road lay- by.

Clubs/Training sessions

Most extra-curricular activities finish at 4.30pm.  Students may choose to walk home after the session, but if they are being collected by car, please could parents/carers use the appropriate car park:

  • Springs Lane car park (bottom of school) for Netball, Basketball and Badminton
  • Cowpasture Road (top car park) for students returning from activities at the School Fields

Activities take place at the school sports field on Leeds Road, Ben Rhydding. Students with a Burley bus-pass should travel to the Field on their normal special bus. A hired coach transports all other students to the pitches. At the end of the session, all students are able to catch the "games bus" back to school, or, with parental consent, may walk home directly from the Sports Field. (Alternatively, parents may collect students from the field at 4.30pm)

School Teams Away Fixtures

The minibus/coach returns to the main entrance of school, on Cowpasture Road. We therefore ask that all students are collected from the top car park on these occasions.

Teams usually return to school for 5.30/6pm (later for Athletics and less local events). However, a mobile phone is useful if there are any changes to the return time. When returning to school, parents/carers may prefer students to be 'dropped off' en-route at an official bus stop which is close to home (e. g. in Burley, Ben Rhydding, etc). As student safety is a top priority, we must have written confirmation of this arrangement.

Extra-curricular Rugby

The school has very close links with Ilkley Rugby Club, and as such, often uses the Club's facilities for matches and training.

Written consent from parents is required to confirm that students are able to walk to the Club independently after school. (All journeys to the Club during the school day will be accompanied by staff either walking or by minibus/coach).

Public Transport - Trains

Termly tickets for student travel can be purchased online for the under-16 Educational Termly Season Ticket scheme here. The scheme is run by Northern Trains and allows parents to save up to 40% on the cost of a termly season ticket. Ordering your pass online makes it easier and safer to purchase. Your order will be processed quickly and efficiently and the tickets posted out the same working day.

Please note these tickets can only be purchased before the start of each term. If your child loses their season ticket Northern trains will replace it for a small administration fee.

The season ticket carries no restrictions, which means that your child can travel worry free on the designated route during evenings and weekends too.

Full details of the origin stations available for your school can be found here.

Should you have any questions about the scheme please contact education@northernrailway.co.uk
