Y9 PILA SKI TRIP

11th - 18th February 2023

Seventy-nine year 9 students had a fantastic time on the slopes in Pila, Italy, over February half term.

The trip departed on Saturday morning and students eventually arrived in the resort early Sunday afternoon, following a visit to the ski hire to try on their boots and helmets!

On Monday morning, after an early breakfast, we excitedly headed up the mountain to meet the ski instructors and begin our first day of lessons. The ski groups showed great progress throughout the week and were quickly exploring the full resort. The beginner groups grew in confidence on the blue slopes, and the advanced groups were soon tackling the more challenging red and black runs.

The Après Ski programme included activities such as ice skating, bowling, an evening meal at a local pizzeria and on Friday, a visit to the catacombs and a walk around the town of Aosta. On the final evening, students were presented with certificates by their ski instructors, who shared celebratory stories of students' success on the slopes; their resilience in learning, courage to tackle challenges, and their kindness towards one another.

"I absolutely loved the Italy ski trip! It was an amazing experience and one I would choose to go on again. Living with everyone for a week was definitely interesting but enjoyable." - Tilly Nutton, Y9

"The 2023 ski trip to Pila has been amazing. The journey to the resort is through the most scenic views I’ve ever seen!  This was followed by traditional Italian cuisine and the rich history of the Aosta valley. Beautiful weather made blasting down the slopes all the much better. ‘Pila in the sky’ is one of the most well kept resorts with lots of restaurants and up to date ski lifts. Experts at the Ski hire centre made it easy to get the right boots, helmet and skis - all important for enjoying the week on the slopes!!!  All of the ski instructors were very helpful and made us feel confident when skiing.  All of this was helped by the group vibe on our daily travels to our après ski activities with many renditions of ‘Sweet Caroline’.  The hotel allowed for rest at the end of a busy day with some of the best views in all of the Italian Alps. All in all the ski trip has been one of the best weeks of my life and would I go again… definitely"- Immy Hibbitt, Y9

"I enjoyed skiing with my friends during the day and the après ski activities during the evenings. By the end of the week I was skiing down red slopes which I never thought I would be able to do. Each day was amazing and it was an experience I will never forget." - Isabelle Atkinson, Y9

"The 2023 ski trip to Pila was an amazing experience. The ski instructors were amazing, they helped us to ski but also had a good laugh. Not just the instructors but all the inter ski staff were amazing. I loved skiing down the slopes, but I also enjoyed the afternoon activities."- Annabelle Forster Y9
