WORLD BOOK DAY

HUMAN TREASURE HUNT

On the 5th March staff and students celebrated World Book Day in style! Over 50 staff dressed up as famous literary characters to promote the importance of reading for pleasure. Whilst some teams opted for a group theme such as fairytales or Little Men and Miss characters, others were rather more abstract and daring with their choices of costume! The pictures say it all!

Tutors kicked off the day by sharing with students the ‘top 10 reasons to read’ followed by a class reading of a short story. Every teacher then shared their favourite book with students at the beginning of each lesson sending a clear message that reading does not just happen in English lessons but is an important factor in securing success in all subjects.

Students also had the opportunity to take part in a human scavenger hunt at break and lunchtime. They had to find 12 teachers and correctly identify their character in order to win a prize. Well done to those students who succeeded!

At IGS we are passionate about encouraging students to read for pleasure not just because it supports them in their language acquisition and academic success but because it has a proven impact on their overall wellbeing and enhances their cultural capital.

Immersing oneself in a book opens doors to other worlds and experience and can provide a welcome reprieve from our hectic everyday lives.

Dr Seuss sums it up perfectly: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
