YEAR 8 & 9 SKI TRIP TO PILA, ITALY

Fourty-one Year 9 pupils went to Pila, Italy, skiing over half term and had a fantastic time.

The trip departed a lunch time on Saturday and despite the best efforts of Storm Dennis we crossed the English Channel five hours later than planned with some choppy seas and eventually arrived in resort on Sunday afternoon. Once everyone was settled into their rooms the pupils experienced their first Italian meal of the week and we went out to collect ski equipment ready for the slopes the next day.

On Monday morning the excitement at breakfast was infectious and we soon headed up the mountain to meet the ski instructors. After a full day on the slopes an evening meal at a local pizzeria awaited the group to start the evening Après Ski programme.

The ski groups showed great progress throughout the week and were quickly exploring the full resort. The beginner groups were confidently paralleling and the advanced groups were tackling the more challenging red and black runs including The Wall!

Other evening entertainment included bowling, ice skating, a walk around the town of Aosta, and a very lively D-I-S-C-O! On the final evening the ski instructors came to the hotel to award the groups with certificates and badges to celebrate a great week.

All pupils and staff returned safely to IGS and even brought some snow back with them for Ilkley to enjoy on Monday morning!Pila5
