CHARITIES WEEK NEWS ROUND-UP 2021

This year our annual charities week ran from Monday 13th to Friday 17th December in support of:

Key Stage 3 Yorkshire Air Ambulance
Key Stage 4 Cancer Research UK
Key Stage 5

Mental Health First Aid

All money raised will be spent on training students and staff to support others within the school community.

A huge total of £5,227.94 was raised!

Each tutor group planned a fun activity to raise money for their chosen Key Stage charity. Here are some of the brilliant ideas they came up with:

7PSW, alongside of our newest members, iLeaders: Sophie, Ella and Madeleina have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks in PBT and on the day selling milkshakes to many adoring fans. They should be incredibly proud of themselves and are an absolute credit to IGS. Well done!

8AE rallied together and organised a Christmas Film Night. The Armitage café was turned into an atmospheric festive cinema for nearly 60 students. The students enjoyed fresh bakes and sweet treats from the forms bake sale whilst enjoying ‘Home Alone’ as voted for by the students on the evening.

8JMP sponsored Mr Pearce to dye his beard and he even added some Christmas lights to it!

8CPM persuaded a number of very brave teachers, including Mr Mooney, to get wet sponged outside on a cold Tuesday in 'Sponge a teacher'.

8LIR not only sold tote bags for charities week but designed these themselves! Katie W of 8LIR designed a fantastic ‘Protect Our Oceans’ tote bag which you can read more about here.

A hamper competition was organised by 9JJS with contributions from form members including Betty's biscuits and other goodies. A special thank you must go to Fran G who kindly donated extra items and made the hamper look so lovely. Over 50 people took part in guessing how heavy the hamper was therefore raising over £50 for charity. The winner was Glen Taylor with a guess of 3200g and the actual mass was 3229g as shown in the picture below.

Year 10 took part in a range of activities from 10EJW's lollipop wall, 10JOW and 10HMM's hot chocolate stand and a huge raffle with brilliant prizes all donated from our local businesses. We thank them all very much for their generosity and support.

Huge respect to the bravest staff of IGS for the sponsored staff leg wax on the Wednesday organised by 10EJW. Mr Carr, Mr Simpson and Mr Hefferin all participated. Although for some it seemed a little too painful to watch!Joshua (10GD), Ben (10IEP) and Freddie (10IEP) 'braved the shave' and raised a fantastic amount of money for Cancer Research UK.

10JNB ran a successful 'Pre-loved' stall in the sports hall. Special thanks to Jack P, Louis H, Archie B and Ben T for organising and running it on the day

A huge well done and thank you to all of IGS for their incredible kindness, effort and participation in this year's charities week and to our community for your fantastic support.
