Eco iLeaders - No Mow May
This month we're joining in the national initiative ‘No Mow May’ and letting it all grow!
A conservation charity, Plantlife, is encouraging us all to change our mowing routine this month. Allowing plants to flower on your lawn can create enough nectar for ten times more bees and other pollinators. The project is being supported by councils, farmers and The National Trust.
IGS have also decided to take part and we will be participating in the No Mow May challenge! The majority of the school site will not be mowed from 3rd May until 5th June. We're looking forward to seeing which type of wild flowers will bloom, providing a feast of nectar for our hungry pollinators.
At the end of the month, we will join in with Plantlife’s nationwide “Every Flower Counts” survey to discover how many bees the UK’s lawns can feed. Plantlife will send us our very own “nectar score” (which will tell us how many bees our grass can feed), which will also help them learn more about the health of the nations’ wild flowers.
Notices have been placed around the site to explain why the grass has not been cut.
