HORSES FOR COURSES

We were delighted to welcome Jo Foster, a successful local racehorse trainer, as part of National Racehorse Week. Jo brought the sunshine, a racehorse and a pony for the first ever equine visitors on site at Ilkley Grammar School.

Year 8 students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the horses and learning about career pathways linked to the horseracing sector. Being the only local secondary school offering this opportunity, staff were also keen to get involved with this unique event. Both Miss Bishop, Deputy Head and Mr Leeming, Head of Year 8, were willing volunteers who tried the equicizer, simulating the position and technique needed to be a jockey.

Mr Leeming, followed up this learning experience in an assembly message explaining the importance of being willing to try new opportunities, as he himself demonstrated on the equicizer. Our careers programme aims to give students a range of opportunities where they can safely embrace new challenges, especially when it takes you out of your comfort zone.

If you would like to explore how you could get involved in career opportunities, however unusual, please contact the Careers Leader, karen.mitchell@ilkleygs.co.uk
