ROTARY TECHNOLOGY TOURNAMENT

Year 9 won the race!
Year 12 won Best Portfolio!
Design Technology pupils travelled to the tournament location at Gargrave Village Hall where they were challenged to solve the problem of moving a block across a mock ski-lift. KS3 had to carry a block across, KS4 had to carry the block and drop it at the end, KS5 had to carry the block, drop it, then return to the start position. Students are not informed in advance what the challenge is and teachers are intentionally excluded from providing any help.
Pupils worked together in a team of 4 and had timber, dowels, wheels, a motor and grey-board to build their prototype based on their knowledge of engineering principles. Student teams were assessed on planning & teamwork, design development, manufacture and their project portfolio.
Many tests later saw most groups complete a successful run! Our year nine group won the KS3 category with a smooth transition across the rope! Year 12's won the best design portfolio in the KS5 category.
