Creative Arts Festival

Thursday 6th - Saturday 8th July 2023

Specially extended for this year, our IGS Creative Arts Festival has been a wonderful celebration of students' creative work and achievements across a range of creative departments. We had over 240 students involved in performing across the two evenings and one afternoon, in addition to our student led Front of House and Backstage teams, and over 130 students had their work exhibited during the Thursday evening.

This year, the event was split into a series of mini concerts, showcasing students' work in lessons, in addition to extra-curricular clubs such as Musical Theatre Group, Drama Groups, Choirs, Orchestra, Bands and many more. On the Thursday evening, during the two extended intervals, there was an exhibition of students Art and Photography work, accompanied by our string quartet.

Thursday night’s concert featured Xanthe Gutch’s her Yorkshire Speak Out Challenge runner-up champion speech ‘Words are a Privilege’. Xanthe was placed second across Yorkshire; we were very proud to be able to showcase this amazing achievement, and the incredible power of speech.

Our very own Composition Club composed the music and sound effects to accompany the Year 8 Drama Group’s Murder Mystery on Friday night, which had the audience on the edge of their seats as they eagerly awaited the verdict!

Our wonderful Backstage group ran the sound, lighting and projections throughout both evenings which truly brought the students' performances to life.

On Saturday, students performed to the community as part of the Ilkley Live Garden Festival. It was wonderful to have our local primary school students joining in the IGS Big Sing, singing popular songs such as ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly-Rea-Jepson and ‘I Want it That Way’ by the Backstreet Boys.

A huge well done to all of the students involved, this was another fantastic event and a wonderful end of year celebration of all their creative achievements.
