GREAT WAR BATTLEFIELDS TOUR

Year 9

Trip Dates: 26 - 29 October 2023

Launched: 14 March 2023

Cost: £295 per student

A battlefields tour through France and Belgium which we believe is vital for our student’s general knowledge, for their understanding of the First World War and is an excellent opportunity to enhance essential learning experiences within the school. The trip is run with The Skipton Academy (TSA) as part of Moorlands Learning Trust and includes both TSA and IGS students and staff.

Key details:

  • 3 days and 2 nights
  • Return executive coach travel
  • Return channel crossing
  • Full Board accommodation – The Peace Village, Messines, Ypres Salient
  • Group travel insurance
  • 24hr emergency contact service whilst on tour

Itinerary:

  • A visit to the Vimy Ridge monument and tunnels;
  • Entrance into the Passchendaele 1917 museum;
  • A tour of the Somme, including Thiepval;
  • Tyne Cot Cemetery;
  • Essex Farm and
  • Participation in the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres town.

Payment:

If your child is successful in gaining a place, the details for payment will be uploaded to your ParentPay account.  Payment of a non-refundable deposit of £100 must be paid via the service on ParentPay by the deadline given to guarantee their place. Failure to make this deadline will result in the place being lost and offered to the students on the reserve list. The remaining balance is required in 4 equal instalments.

Please note that this trip, while of great interest and educational benefit, is a non-compulsory, enrichment opportunity during the school holidays.  As a result, the school is unable to subsidise the cost for parents of students in receipt of Pupil Premium.
