Key Stage 4 Curriculum
In Years 10 and 11, all students study the compulsory core subjects leading to 5 GCSE qualifications in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science (either Trilogy Combined Science or Separate Science); Core PE, RE and PSHE/ Citizenship are not accredited.
Careers information and guidance education is used to support work experience placements for all students; all students also receive independent careers advice and take part in a mock interview process.
In addition to the 5 Core GCSEs, students are then able to choose an additional four GCSEs and other courses to make up their full curriculum for Years 10 and 11. We offer a broad spectrum of academic and creative GCSE courses, as well as a growing number of technical courses including BTEC qualifications, for example, in Health and Social Care, Engineering and Hospitality and Catering. A very small number of students also access technical courses and further literacy and maths teaching with a bespoke timetable, including a wide range of options from college placements, to alternative provision on site with smaller group teaching. Students accessing this bespoke pathway are still expected to study English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science.
