Years 7-11 Students

Business Studies

Curriculum Overview

Our Mission

In the Business Studies department, our mission is to provide a world-class curriculum for all. We have a vision to develop a curriculum to provide real world, enterprising, higher education, and employability skills for tomorrow’s leaders and one that shows respect for all stakeholders.

With a dynamic, ever changing, global business environment it is important our curriculum empowers our students with expert knowledge about business functions and profitability within the UK and World Economy. Our qualifications encourage our students to learn about businesses from a variety of stakeholder perspectives allowing students to problem solve, show resilience, and make well informed decisions that consider the internal and external business setting. Whether our learners choose to become an employee, a small business owner, a corporate executive or a government official, the core purpose of our business curriculum is to consider how each lesson can create unique opportunities for students to achieve their personal best and take pride. We aim to enable every pupil to leave with an academic qualification and the courage needed to further education or employment and personal economic wellbeing.

By the end of their journey through the curriculum students will:

  • Understand the difference between local and national business contexts and will develop an understanding of how these contexts impact business behaviour and decisions
  • Develop an understanding of the interdependent nature of business activity through interactions between business operations, finance, marketing, and human resources, as well as the relationship between the business and the environment in which it operates.
  • Understand how these functional areas influence business activity and how interdependencies and relationships between them underpin business decisions.
  • Consider the impact of the wider world on the decisions a business makes as it grows.
  • Develop a critical understanding of organisations and their ability to meet society’s needs and wants
  • Generate enterprising and creative approaches to business opportunities, problems, and issues
  • Understand that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives
  • Be aware of the ethical dilemmas and responsibilities faced by organisations and individuals. Kindness needs to be shown to all stakeholders when decisions are made.
  • Acquire a range of relevant business and generic skills, including decision making, problem solving, the challenging of assumptions and critical analysis
  • Apply numerical skills in a range of business contexts.
